Ubud - Payangan Sight Seeing Walk
The name for the royal village of Ubud is derived from the Balinese word “ubad” (medicine), the moniker of an herb with healing properties. If you should find yourself feeling healed and energized and would like to broaden your horizons, the Ubud-Payangan Sight Seeing Walk is the perfect opportunity to step outside the bounds of central Ubud.
Strolling down to the river, where this “ubad” or healing herb grows, you might see some Balinese villagers having a mandi (bath). Please note that taking photos of them would be considered rude yet you are welcome to make eye contact and smile. Your guide will then lead you through litchi, vanilla, durian and coconut plantations, as well as the less commercial market of Payangan village. The market used to be held only three times a week, but as the demand grew it is now open daily.
A sight seeing walk like this will definitely stir up your appetite, and in the nearby village of Kedewatan a famous spicy Balinese lunch awaits you at a warung (local restaurant) called Nasi Ayam Kedewatan. One might think “Ayam” is the word for “Yum” in Balinese, as you feast on this yummy dish, but it actually means chicken!
